Questions & Answers
Q:  What is the difference between a passport book and a passport card?
A:  The difference between a "passport book" and a "passport card" is that the book is what we are all used to seeing, the blue hard covered document that opens up and is valid for 10 years.  The passport card is a credit card looking card that allows you entry into Mexico and Canada by driving only! It is not valid for a flight coming into the U.S.

Q:  Do I need a passport if I am going on a cruise?
A:  As of right now, as long as a cruise ship is departing from a U.S. port of U.S. territory such as San Juan, you are not required to have a passport.  They are still recommended though because should there be a problem with a cruise ship and you get stuck somewhere and have to fly back to the U.S., you are in trouble as the passport card will not be sufficient documentation for U.S. requirements.  Of course, the chances of that happening are very small but if you recall this past year Carnival Cruise lines ran into such a problem and tried to dock in Mexico and could not as so many passengers did not have passports that they were forced to stay longer on the ship until they could reach a U.S. port.

Passports are valid for 10 years for anyone over the age of 16.  Infant to 15 years of age are valid for 5 years, unfortunately they cost the same.
